Brits take European eventing team bronze
Faults in the final showjumping phase dropped Britain below France in the European eventing Championships - a slightly disappointing result after 8 previous consecutive gold medals. Germany had an emphatic win taking not only team gold but all 3 individual medals.

Brits 3rd in showjumping Nations Cup series
Germany won the final round and the series title in the showjumping Nations Cup at Rotterdam. Britain was 2nd and took overall 3rd place behind the Netherlands. The bottom two teams - USA and Denmark will be relegated from the league.

Neighbour rescues 6 horses from stable fire
A fire at a livery yard in Orphington, Kent was spotted by a neighbour who rescued 6 horses from the burning stables, then evacuated mares and foals from a nearby block. Only one horse was slightly injured but 20 stables, feed, tack and rugs were destroyed.

Pony stuck in tyre
A pony in Germany was trying to graze under a tyre when she slipped and became trapped head first. She was successfully cut free.

Lifeboat rescues horse which swam out to sea
A mare threw her rider whilst paddling at Sandwich Bay, Kent then swam about half a mile out to sea. The coastguard was called and a lifeboat crew managed to attach a line to her bridle and coax her back to safety.

Drunk carriage driver blames horse for running a red light
The driver of a horse and trap claimed that his colour blind horse was to blame for going through a red traffic light. He was given a 12 month conditional discharge for being drunk in charge of a horse and carriage.

GB Showjumpers win Nations Cup in Dublin
The British team of Nick Skelton, Micheal Whitaker, Scott Brash and Robert Smith beat the Irish in a jump off to win the Aga Khan Trophy in Dublin. Nick Skelton was particularly impressive, jumping 3 immaculate clear rounds on Carlo. The points gained puts Britain in 3rd place in the league ensuring that they will stay in the top league next year. The team focus is now on th European Championships.

Horse sculptures in Cheltenham
Cheltenham Art Gallery is running a parade of 10 life-sized horse sculptures, decorated by various artists, from 1st August to 15th October. They are positioned around Cheltenham and are sponsored by different organisations.
