Nick Skelton on Big Star wins the €1,000,000 Aachen Grand Prix
Nick Skelton and 10 year-old stallion, Big Star, jumped the only triple clear to take the winner's purse of €330,000 against a top class field in the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen. Winner for Olympic Team Gold in London 2012, Nick was considered unlucky not to also achieve an individual medal after Big Star's excellent performance at the Games.

Lavendar reduces stress
A study at Louisiana's McNeese State University has shown that 15 minutes of lavender aromatherapy reduced the heart and respiratory rates in horses that had been subject to acute stress. It could help reduce nervousnous in stressful situations such as following a competition.

Pippa Funnell wins Tattersalls Horse Trials
Pippa Funnell won the CCI*** on Billy Beware and was 3rd on Billy Landretti, jumping clear in the final phase on both horses. Bill Levett on Improvise for Australia was 2nd and Sarah Ennis in 4th place was the best of the Irish on BLM Diamond Delux.

Phosphorus being over-supplemented?
A study in Sweden has shown that people may be over-supplementing phosphorus (P) in the diet of young horses. They found that National Research Council's (NRC) 2007 guidelines over estimate faecal P losses. This means that NRC 2007 recommendations are too high and levels in NRC 1987 guidelines were adequate.

Brits win St Gallen showjumping Nations Cup
Due to appaling weather, the second round of the competition was replaced by a 4 way jump off between the teams in equal first place after round 1. One rider per team competed - Steve Guerdat (Switzerland), Laura Renwick (Britain), Gregory Wathelet (Belgium) and Shane Breen (Ireland) - with Renwick securing the win for Britain.
