William Fox-Pitt tops Eventing world rankings
William Fox-Pitt is now 16 points ahead of Andrew Nicholson (NZ) who had headed the world rankings since the London 2012 Olympics. Fox-Pitt recently won the Rolex Kentucky 3-Day Event for the third time and now heads to Badminton with horses Cool Mountain, Parklane Hawk and Chilli Morning, hoping for a second win.

Do magnetic blankets help healthy horses?
Magnetic blankets are said to increase blood flow and reduce muscle tenderness and tension, thus helping to prevent musculoskeletal injuries. However a Swedish study on 10 healthy horses casts doubt on this. It showed that effect of a magnetic blanket on the back was not significantly different to the effect of a non-magnetc blanket.

First foal for showjumper Opportunity B
18 year old Opportunity B, a prolific winner on the GB showjumping circuit as well as competing in Nations Cups with Helen Tredwell, has given birth to a chestnut filly. The filly is the daughter of two Foxhunter champions, her dam winning in 2003 and her sire, Dutch Warmblood Luidam, winning in 1999.

Is stallion performance under saddle affected by breeding?
A German study has concluded that semen collection from well-trained stallions does not affect their performance under saddle. Heart rate studies show that collection is only a moderate stressor. In addition, warm up exercise before breeding could help prevent injuries to hind legs or the back during collection.
